A Business Development Consultant, also known as a Management Analyst, creates strategic development plans to increase the profitability of a company. They are responsible for implementation of strategic plans, customer budgets, and ongoing forecasts.
An enterprising Business Development Consultant can increase a company’s health by developing new business lines, or diversifying existing business lines. The consultant often works with management and staff to ensure that the strategic plan is being followed in all areas of the company.
Proper business development often means seeking out new sources of revenue. This may include seeking out more customers for existing products, or showing clients how to use their current product in new ways. Business Development Consultants may also create a new product or service from scratch, which will require in depth analysis of the target market, and ‘due diligence’ on new markets, technologies, and emerging trends.
Business Development Consultants must have an in-depth understanding of the products or services their company provides, and should have experience within the industry in which they operate. Many companies consider this position to be a high-level position, and often hire out-of-the-box thinkers. The Business Development Consultant must have excellent presentation skills, be able to network with other professionals and leaders, and have excellent written communication skills.
Business Development Consultants must be organized, and able to manage multiple tasks and deadlines. They usually work long hours, but can travel frequently.
