Netatmo, the leader in smart products for a safer and more comfortable home, introduces its new Smart Modulating Thermostat.
The Netatmo Smart Modulating Thermostat is compatible with OpenTherm boilers. It allows the user to adapt their heating to their routine via a heating schedule, and to control their heating remotely through the Home + Control app. Thanks to its Auto-Adapt feature and OpenTherm technology, the Thermostat adjusts the heating precisely according to the outdoor temperature and home’s heating properties.
‘We developed the Smart Modulating Thermostat to enable users with an OpenTherm boiler to improve their comfort without wasting energy’, explains Fred Potter, Founder of Netatmo and CTO of Legrand’s Eliot programme. ‘This Thermostat expands Netatmo’s Energy range to provide our users with even more options. They can now choose between the Smart Thermostat and the Smart Modulating Thermostat depending on their installation, to control their heating remotely and reduce their energy consumption.’
Control the heating remotely with the Smart Modulating Thermostat
The Smart Modulating Thermostat allows the user to control their heating remotely through their smartphone or tablet. Thanks to Legrand’s Home + Control app, the user can adjust their heating wherever they are. For example, they can turn the heating back on just before they return from holiday or increase the heating remotely when the children come home early from school.
In addition to the remote interaction, the heating can also be adjusted manually using the Thermostat, with no need to open the app.
Optimal heating to reduce energy consumption
The Smart Modulating Thermostat allows the user to heat their home optimally and only when necessary. Thanks to OpenTherm technology, it changes the temperature of the water in the heating circuit to make the best use of the capacities of the modulating boiler.
For more savings and comfort, the user sets-up a heating schedule in the Home + Control app based on five questions about their habits. The Thermostat then adjusts the heating when family members leave for work, and ensures their home is warm when they get back. In addition to this schedule, the Away and Frost Protection modes adjust the heating when the user is away for several days.
With the Auto‐Adapt feature, the Thermostat analyses the home’s insulation and the outdoor temperature. Together with the OpenTherm modulation, this feature automatically determines the time required to reach the desired temperature. It therefore guarantees optimal comfort levels at the right time and prevents the excessive use of energy.
Domestic hot water control for OpenTherm system boilers
If a user has an OpenTherm system boiler that handles both the heating and domestic hot water supply, they can regulate the domestic hot water supply via a separate schedule. This way, the user can simply deactivate the hot water supply from the app when they go on holidays and reactivate it with one click when they return. They can also adjust the water temperature using their smartphone.
Identify problems with the Auto-Care feature
With the Auto-Care feature, the Smart Modulating Thermostat warns of possible faults in the boiler. For example, if an issue is detected with the boiler, the user will be notified through the app. This means they can easily identify the problem and share the information with their heating engineer, without having to call them out for a simple diagnosis.
Control the heating with voice commands
The Netatmo Smart Modulating Thermostat is compatible with Apple HomeKit, which allows the user to control the heating using voice commands – useful if they have their hands full in the kitchen, for example. This means the user can simply use a voice command such as: ‘Hey Siri, lower the temperature in the bedroom by three degrees.’
Installation and compatibility
The Netatmo Smart Modulating Thermostat is compatible with most OpenTherm boilers, including system boilers, regardless of the energy used: gas, oil or wood.
It can also be installed on dry contact boilers. In this case, the Smart Modulating Thermostat works like the Smart Thermostat: it turns the boiler on or off to reach the right temperature, but it doesn’t change the temperature of the water in the heating circuit.
The user must address a certified installer to install the Thermostat. For example, they can submit their request on the Netatmo PRO website, which lists certified installers.
Designed by Philippe Starck, the Smart Modulating Thermostat is a wireless thermostat that can be placed in any room in the house. Four different coloured stickers are provided in the pack so that it fits perfectly into any home.
The Netatmo Smart Modulating Thermostat is also compatible with Netatmo Smart Radiator Valves, which regulate the heating on a room-by-room basis.
Price and availability
The Smart Modulating Thermostat is sold at the recommended retail price of £219.99. It is available from today on www.netatmo.com, through professional distribution channels and energy suppliers.
