We are increasingly more dependent on tech. Both professionally and personally, tech supports our activities, but it evolves quicker than perhaps any other aspect in our lives. Staying current is something that every individual and business struggles with – staying on trend is nigh on impossible. But we can try. That’s why now is a good time to look towards the tech trends that are likely to dominate in 2023. These trends are in no particular order, but all will impact our existence in one way or another.

The continued adoption of crypto

Love it or loathe it, cryptocurrencies are here to stay. It may need to become less volatile for many to trust it enough to start using, but we are already seeing its adoption in consumer industries such as online gambling and gaming as a sign that it is finally moving into the mainstream. A casual glance of gaming sites, such as betting sites Ireland, will prove that crypto is fast becoming a standard transactional offering in this industry in particular. Expect this trend to continue and its crossover into additional consumer areas to become a theme of 2023.

The ubiquity of AI

Okay, so AI is hardly new. But a continued trend into next year and beyond will be how artificial intelligence continues to permeate nearly every aspect of our being. We may not know it, but AI is already responsible for our online searches, but now the technology has been developed to create human communication and artistic patterns, such as in the creation of music and art. Deepfake technology is already well-known, but what we can create with AI will be huge in 2023.

The Metaverse

This, of course, is the future of the internet. What exactly it will look like is hard to pin down, but what we do know is that a more immersive experience is coming, with the opportunity to ‘try on’ clothes using virtual reality already a possibility. 2023 could be the year where interactivity in the metaverse, through phones, headsets, glasses and more becomes more mainstream.

Digital editing

Of course we have been able to edit digitally for many years now. But the new wave of digital editing will have real-world consequences with innovations such as editing the performance of certain technology, and even living things through DNA editing. This is already beginning with the editing of immune systems to combat illnesses. A revolution in healthcare for sure.

Cyber security

2023, like any other year, will be a year in which developments are made to combat current real-world threats. One of the greatest is cyber-security, and so innovations are already underway which will seek to protect governments, businesses and individuals against cyber threats. The way in which we open, interact and save information on our own personal computers will probably evolve substantially in 2023.

Sustainability

By now, most of us are acutely aware of the threats to the environment, and our need to continue evolving our behaviors and practices to a more sustainable nature. We are seeing this with developments in business and branding all the time, but this will accelerate in 2023, with sustainability becoming the number one branding innovation for business. Technology will therefore be instrumental in improving the footprint businesses leave behind.

Energy sources

Intrinsically linked to sustainability is the issue of energy sources, both industrial and personal. Expect to see fast-moving evolution in affordable and practical energy sources, such as solar, hydro-electric and more besides. Having solar panels on your roof will be an immensely more common sight by the end of 2023.

Wi-fi access

Wi-fi is hardly new, but what will be is the range of places in which we can access it. On flights is a classic example of somewhere Wi-fi access is relatively new, but expect this to extend to all manner of places, including wilderness areas as workers continue to seek opportunities for remote work.

The Internet of Things (IoT)

This is another trend that has been a standard inclusion on trends lists for a couple of years now, but there’s no reason to suggest it’s impact will fail to be felt in 2023 or beyond. More and more devices around us will be connected and will be able to interact. One look around your household now, as opposed to another glance around in 12-months’ time, will prove the case in point.

5G

It may have created its fair share of controversy, but 5G is an undoubted game-changer in the world of technology. For it is 5G’s capacity to support all of these previously-mentioned technological advances, and more, that is at the core of global tech evolution. 4.4 billion subscribers are projected by the end of 2027, which will account for nearly 50% of the market. As such, this is a trend that will not go away for many years to come.
